DFTA Award 2022

DFTA represents over 300 mainly medium-sized member companies of the flexoprint industry.

It is very important for us to preserve our natural habitat and resources for future generations. We take special environmental concerns into account throughout the entire chain of production and are committed to manufacturing in the most resource-friendly way possible to avoid or reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

JUNG Verpackungen GmbH manufactures exclusively in Germany. Germany has the world‘s strictest statutory regulations regarding environmental protection and the conservation of resources. Therefore JUNG is guaranteed to follow the most stringent environmental standards. Even since the start of the company in 1969 JUNG has been taking action to minimize the effect that company-related activities and products have on the environment.

This responsible attitude led us to adopt a comprehensive environmental protection policy in all areas, both commercial and industrial. Our products are developed and produced with the environment in mind, to minimize our ecological footprint. We make economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly use of natural resources, energy and materials and demand this from our business partners as well.

JUNG therefore excludes materials that pose a risk to the environment. We prefer to use recyclable materials and biodegradable substances.

Paper - the main raw material that we use - is 100 % pure and therefore environmentally friendly per se.

All of the raw paper that we use is either FSC®-certified (SCS-COC-002824, FSC-C100297) or 100 % recycled paper (with the Blue Angel environmental award). The raw paper also comes exclusively from German or European suppliers in order to minimise transport distances.

We have increased the share of recycled paper from 12 % in 2017 to 61.5 % in 2021. Wherever possible, we continue to replace virgin fibre papers with recycled alternatives. This sometimes means high costs and adjustments in production, but we are happy to accept these for the benefit of the environment.

We print primarily with organic alcohol-based inks that are classified as being at least as good as or better than water-based inks in terms of sustainability and environmental compatibility. All inks and resources used comply with the REACH Regulation.

A fully-integrated exhaust air cleaning system with a catalytic post-combustion system is operated in our print shop to ensure certified, sustainable and environmentally friendly print production. The heat generated in this way is used to heat the office buildings since the beginning of 2020.

The introduction of active energy management, e.g. proactively switching off equipment that is not currently needed, leads to significant energy savings.

The printing and processing machines used comply with the latest technological standards and therefore have a very low energy consumption.

The lighting systems are gradually being switched over to energy-saving lamps. Compressed air is produced with consumption-optimised compressors.

It is a declared goal of the company to minimise the consumption of fresh water. The disposal of waste is guaranteed using a complex disposal system in conjunction with certified external waste disposal specialists. We participate in the Reclay dual system within the framework of the statutory requirements of the German Packaging Ordinance that is certified annually by the declaration of completeness that has to be filed with the Environmental Agency.

It is a matter of honour for JUNG to protect the environment and reduce the use of plastic and cardboard in its packaging to a minimum.

The involvement of all employees and the guidance towards a method of working that is as environmentally friendly as possible is a key task of the management that is set out in writing in the extensive “JUNG standard system” set of standards.

We observe and take into account that our business activities comply with the relevant national and international laws, regulations and standards for the protection of the environment.

Certifications:

The basis of all work processes at JUNG is the extensive “JUNG standard system” comprising more than 540 A4 pages that is available to all employees and is continuously used for training and constantly updated. All measures that are relevant in order to comply with the quality, occupational safety and environmental standards are defined in this set of regulations.

Furthermore, we have been able to demonstrate the high standard of our measures through the successful auditing by international corporate groups (P&G, Hallmark, L’Oréal and others).

In February 2019 we achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification. The certification ISO14001 is in preparation, as well as the energy consumption optimisation complying to the requirements of the European standard DIN EN 16247-1.
